Linda Sanchez (D-CA) Would Like You to Shut Up

Linda T. Sanchez (D-CA) has a really bad idea that she would like to make into law:

Straight out of the bill (I can't even make one up this bad):

Whoever transmits in interstate or foreign commerce any communication, with the intent to coerce, intimidate, harass, or cause substantial emotional distress to a person, using electronic means to support severe, repeated, and hostile behavior, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than two years, or both....

Ok, so say something that someone doesn't like over and over using electronic means and guess what? You can go to club fed for two years. Hmm. Something tells me that this is a severe curtailment of your freedom of speech and freedom of the press. That And that begs the question:

What exactly is electronic means?

... any equipment dependent on electrical power to access an information service, including email, instant messaging, blogs, websites, telephones, and text messages.

I guess bullhorns and PA systems are ok, as long as you don't plug them into an "information service."

Who is Sanchez? According to muckety.com, not very important. But that doesn't exempt her of having at least a clue about the Constitution and what our basic freedoms are. I'd be interested to learn more about what the "Democrats Reshaping America" organization is. I wonder if a member of the tinfoil hat club could help us better understand that.

What the...!!!!!

This is soviet style oppression in the making. This is so vague that anything anyone says online can be used against them.

If I have political based essays online and they are re-posted on more than one service and someone is offended somewhere even in another country, than I just broke the law.

If this gets passed I am leaving this country. It is too expensive and pensive anyhow.
