Lately, I've been a little obsessed with Twitter. Here are a couple of things I've learned:
- Any talk of quality versus quantity is silly. Vincent Wright is right: you have to have both.
- Twitter's clickthrough rate is about 4%.
- People hate getting direct messages and complain about them a lot. Unfortunately, 3.7% of people who get them will click on them. This means that spammers are going to move to Twitter in force as spam emails have about 1/10th the clickthrough rate.
- If you want a lot of followers, then get engaged and start following others and start talking.
- There are tons of social media experts who want you to pay them to help you better use twitter. Anyone calling themselves a social media expert has about the same level of experience using social media as the average high school graduate. Unlike the high school graduate, who will work for about $7/hour, the social media expert demands $200/hour and does not know how to say these three words, "I don't know."
- Read this before using Twitter.
